Christmas in Kauai

We are in Kauai for Christmas holidays. Today we went to Waimea Canyon, which was beautiful. On the way back we stopped at a beach, and the kids played as the sun was setting.

Noah pounds mochi

This morning the parents could go and participate at the nursery. Unfortunately, both Kayo and I had to work. But Koyuki’s daddy sent this picture of Noah pounding mochi.

Happy birthday Brian

On Dec.10th, we went to Christmas party at Kayo’s friend,Emiko’s house. Since it was Brian ‘s birthday, I made cake and brought it to the party. To make Brian surprise, Emiko got an idea. She called Brian to come to the other room and asked him to be a Santa to give to kids candy bars. While he was putting Santa costume in the other room ,
I prepared the birthday cake at kitchen . Then he appeared to give kids candy bars. Soon as after he finished, Emiko played Happy Birthday song by piano and I carried a cake to him.

There were 6 families at party. Noah &Sarah were so excited to play with those fathers.

Next morning, I made pancake for breakfast. Since we had some leftover cream and fruits from making a cake, I served them to the table. Then Noah started make face with pancake and fruits on his plate. it was cute. So everyone did the same thing. Noah made”a guy”
Kayo made”bear” , Brian made” space alian” !

Dinner at Koyuki-chan’s house

Last night we had dinner at Koyuki-chan’s home, she’s a friend from the nursery. Kayo made bread and her carrot salad and a tart. Earlier in the evening a whole bunch of kids from another nursery class came and went like a storm.

Here is Koyuki and Noah eating and watching TV.

Kayo made the tart in a pan she’d given me for my birthday. She also gave me the Steve Jobs biography.

The night before that was a big party at Emiko’s house, with some people that Kayo knows through her childhood friend. I got to play Santa. Emiko gave me a Santa suit, and I arrived in the room and distributed chocolate candy to everyone. That was fun. I should add that Kayo made a fabulous birthday cake for me and brought it to the party, I hope she posts a picture. She wad busy cooking this weekend!

Sarah and Noah’s goggles

We bought Noah goggle for his swim class. So Noah could practice using them, he wore them in the bath a few times. But in last nights bath, Sarah got her hands on them.

Amuesment park at the nursery

Today and tomorrow the nursery built an amuesment park. During the past two weeks Noah’s class was busy building. They made a train by putting a boxes on platforms with wheels, and painting them to look like the Chuo Line and Shinkansen. The older kids would then pull the train with younger kids inside. The parents could observe secretly from the second floor balcony. I saw Sarah ride the “roller coaster” (a car that ran down a ramp). Sarah has a bug smile. Then Sarah went to Noah’s Chuo Line train. Ot was Noah’s turn to take tickets, so he took Sarah’s ticket and other kids pushed.

Dinner at Marie-Amelie’s

Yesterday we went to dinner at Marie-Amelie family’s house. Her mother made a nice roasted chicken with mustard sauce dish. Kayo made bread, and i made guacamole. So, when we got there Marie-Amelie’s papa made margeritas. The kids had fun playing and the adults could have adult conversation. At one point, the kids got some candy in a bowl. But Sarah grabbed the bowl and ran. As she ran, she had a very serious look on her face, as if this was her one chance in her life to eat candy. After a couple of fights Sarah got her share of the candy,she sat on the sofa and ate it really fast.

I lost my keys and wallet, probably at home, after I came back from a conference on Friday night. I’ve been searching for them all weekend, but now it is Sunday night and I need to find them so I can open my office tomorrow morning!

Thanksgiving dinner

We had Thanksgiving this year on Wednesday again, since that is a holiday (it is Japanese labor day, but something like “Thanks for Laborers Day”, also including the word “thanks”) Kayo baked bread and made mashed potatoes, I made pumpkin pie (still in the kitchen) and cooked asparagus. I bought a whole baked chicken, and canned cranberry sauce is from the store. Mmmmm.

Thursday was back to work, and there were no Black Friday sales.

Bored? See 2008 and 2009 Thanksgivings. Perhaps no 2010 posting.

Pizza dinner
